How health is important ?
What any office gossip topics can be?
We often talk about office gossip as something negative, or experience sharing, fashion, food, news, sports or politics.
But I have another question:
Do our workplace conversations are also reflecting our health orientation?
“Have you heard what happened with him / her ?”
“She is always stressed.”
“I didn't sleep properly last night.”
“Let's order something… I'm too tired to cook.”
“My back is hurting again.”
“I have been sitting continuously since morning.”
“I want to start exercising, but I don't get time.”
“Did you see how much weight he/she has gained?”
“Let's have tea first. We'll think about health later.”
This reveal something interesting:
What we repeatedly talk about often reflects what we repeatedly think about.
And what we repeatedly think about can influence our choices.
If our conversations continuously revolve around:
🔸 Stress
🔸 Complaints
🔸 Lack of sleep
🔸 Junk food
🔸 Inactivity
🔸 Work pressure
🔸 Body image
🔸 Fatigue
🔸 Negativity
“Let's take a 10-minute walking break.”
“Have you had enough water today?”
“What healthy lunch are you trying today?”
“I took five minutes to breathe and reset before the next meeting.”
“I've started protecting my sleep.”
“Let's walk instead of sitting during our break.”
“I learned something interesting about healthy habits.”
That is not just conversation.
That is health orientation.
Your conversations create your environment.
We often think health is only about:
Diet + Exercise + Medicine.
healthy living influenced by:
What we hear + What we discuss + What we normalise + What we encourage.
This doesn't mean that every office conversation needs to become a health lecture.
Be aware of the conversations you repeatedly participate in.
Because colleagues influence colleagues.
* complains may increase negativity.
* encourages healthy habits may influence others positively.
* excessive stress may create a stressful culture.
A team that normalises breaks, respect, movement and self-care may create a healthier culture.
If someone listened to your conversations at work for one week, what would they learn about your lifestyle?
“My health is part of my productivity.”
“Let's complain about the problem.”
“Let's find a healthier way to deal with it.”
Perhaps our Health Quotient is not only visible in our medical reports.
Perhaps a small part of it is visible in our daily conversations, choices and workplace behaviour.
Talk healthy. Think healthy. Influence healthy. Live healthy.
